ABOUT

A release helper that got slightly out of hand.

Pit Radio started as a small GitHub Actions workflow for automatically posting new release announcements to Discord.

Then came manual announcements, changelog posts, project channels, multiple webhooks, role mentions, custom emojis, fallback emojis, test broadcasts and multi target routing.

At that point it had stopped being just a release notification and turned into a reusable Discord broadcast tool.

WHAT IT DOES

One workflow. Any combination of destinations.

  • Manual announcements.
Create structured Discord broadcasts directly from GitHub Actions.
  • Automatic release posts.
Published GitHub Releases can trigger Discord announcements automatically.
  • Multi target broadcasting.
Select one or several destinations for the same broadcast instead of being limited to a single target.
  • Project specific destinations.
Route updates directly to GridSync, Changelog, Tools, RaTiX or external communities.
  • Target specific role mentions.
Each destination can notify its own configured Discord role when a real announcement is sent.
  • Custom GridSync emojis.
GridSync destinations use server specific Discord emojis when available.
  • Unicode fallbacks.
External servers automatically receive standard Unicode replacements when custom emojis are unavailable.
  • Test mode.
Check routing, webhooks, embeds and emojis without sending a real announcement or role ping.
  • Mobile friendly control.
Configure and launch Pit Radio directly through GitHub Actions, including from the GitHub mobile app.

HOW IT WORKS

No permanent bot required.

  1. Choose the broadcast.
Select test or manual mode and enable any combination of configured Discord destinations.
  2. Add the content.
Enter a title, intro, structured detail lines and an optional GridSync page.
  3. Pit Radio builds each payload.
Each target receives the correct webhook, role mention and emoji set.
  4. GitHub Actions sends the broadcast.
Discord receives the finished embeds without requiring a permanently running bot, application or VPS.

COMMUNITY TEMPLATE

Fork it. Copy it. Make it yours.

The public community branch contains a cleaned and documented version of Pit Radio. It removes GridSync specific configuration and replaces it with reusable placeholders.

The included documentation explains how to configure your own Discord webhooks, GitHub Secrets, roles, destinations and custom emojis.

You can fork the repository or copy the example workflow into your own GitHub project. Webhook URLs remain stored in GitHub Secrets and are not exposed in the public workflow file.

PIT RADIO & DEVELOPMENT

Built because one little script was apparently not enough.

Pit Radio started inside the GridSync release workflow and slowly became its own community tool. Development updates and new GridSync experiments are shared through the Discord community.
